Shoeless recession-core D-beat punx straight outta the Turret.
Rogernomix was a ferocious D-beat/ crust punk band from Wellington, New Zealand, known for their raw, dual-vocal assault and unapologetic anarcho-punk critique of neoliberalism, capitalism, and social injustice. Formed in late 2008 at Turret House in the suburb of Newtown, the group channeled the high-speed, raging energy of bands like Totalitär and Mob 47, delivering short, explosive tracks fueled by political rage and cathartic noise.
Rogernomix played their first gig in April 2009 at The Adelaide in Wellington, sharing the bill with Scab, Drug Problem, and Sleeping Dogs. That same month, they released a demo tape. In May 2009, they toured the North Island with Cult of the Cobra (a band that also included Sarsha on guitar).
In 2009, they recorded their debut EP at Scumbag College. Always Never Fun Records released it as a 7” in February 2010. To promote it, they toured the South Island with the power-violence band Drug Problem, sharing stages with Conniption, Foe, and Bazooka. A short North Island tour followed in March 2010.
They performed at Punkfest 2010 in October alongside Meth Drinker and a one-off reunion of Shortlived. In early 2011, they played a benefit show for Gaza at Garrett Street with Australian bands Useless Children and Royal Headache, plus Ben Knight’s garage-punk duo Teen Hygiene.
The band continued releasing material, including the “Big Stinking Pile” EP in 2014. An anthology compiling earlier EPs appeared on tape via Zero Style in 2016.
In 2016, Rogo’s released a split 12” with fellow Wellington D-beat/ crust band Bonecruncher. Their final 7” EP, “Punch A Nazi In The Face” (released April 2018), delivered six tracks of intense political fury, including “Grotty Politics,” “Competing Freedoms,” “Toxic Exposure,” and “Rich Americans.” A review by Craig Hayes praised it as a “storming” release full of subversive hunger and much-needed catharsis amid the prevailing “shitgeist.”
In May 2016 Rogernomix embarked on a tour of Australia and Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines), with shows at venues like Rumah Api in Kuala Lumpur and Face to Fest in Indonesia. In 2017 they returned to Australia for the Such As Life festival in Raglan, Victoria, plus gigs at Neil Roberts Day, Christchurch Punkfests, and Dark Days festival in Hobart, Tasmania. They shared bills with a wide range of local and international acts and remained a fixture in New Zealand’s DIY punk scene into the late 2010s.
COVID-19 lockdowns halted much of the live scene from May 2020 onward. Rogernomix played a handful of shows between restrictions and performed their final gig on November 14, 2020, at a birthday event for Razored Raw’s Matai alongside Bowel Rupture and Wayne Anderson.
