Punch A Nazi In The Face is the fifth EP from Rogernomix, a Wellington d-beat crust punk band formed in 2008. Billing themselves as “New Zealand’s longest running, male/female duelling vocals, Newtonian D-beat destrukt band of ALL-TIME!” Rogernomix pays homage to the Swedish d-beat of the 1980s, in the style of Anti-Cimex, Totalitar and Mob 47.
The EP was recorded at Scumbag College in June 2017 by Vanya Vitali, and was released in April 2018 by local label Always Never Fun Records. The 7” features artwork by Indonesian artist Bam Sickos, who Rogernomix met in Manila on the last night of their 2016 Australia/ South-East Asia tour.
Much of the EP’s content responds to Trump’s 2016 election and goes after several other targets: “Grotty Politics” covers election-cycle pandering; “Competing Freedoms” makes the point that the only way to argue with racists is to punch them in the face; “Toxic Exposure” is about companies poisoning the environment for profit; “Rich Americans” criticises the wealthy who choose to flee Trump’s America instead of helping fix it. “Male White Corporate Oppression” takes aim at Bob Jones as the New Zealand archetype for old rich dinosaurs whose shit reckons are given too much legitimacy; “B.C.C.” goes after bullshit climate-change deniers.
