Sheriff Lobo formed in early 2001 in Wellington, New Zealand, by Jeremy Graham (vocals, guitar), Jason Gascoigne (drums), and Sebastian Meek (bass), all former members of Floorpie. They were joined by 14-year-old guitarist Tim Shann. The band’s sound was a fast, technical style of punk rock, influenced by bands like Lagwagon and Strung Out.

In March 2001, Sheriff Lobo recorded their debut demo EP, Dude… That’s My Camel, capturing 10 songs on a 4-track recorder. The EP’s polished sound drew comparisons to Satanic Surfers and early Blink 182. Their first live performance was on August 2, 2001, at Valve, alongside Dirk Drent and The Rod Johnson Experience. Throughout 2001 and mid-2002, the band performed in Wellington, Palmerston North, and Auckland, sharing stages with bands like We Dunno, Brubeck, Day One, and Sommerset. They were part of a new wave of Wellington punk bands, including Channel 13, Bonus Donor, and The Minimals, and connected with Palmerston North acts likeMailbox Skipole andG.M.C.

In 2002, Jeremy relocated to Auckland to pursue audio engineering studies, and Sheriff Lobo played their final show in the kitchen of 13 Garrett Street. After the band’s dissolution, Jason joined The Minimals and later played with Shumway, The Deadline, and other Wellington punk bands. He currently performs with Gravel Pit and Standover.
