Pantihero

Pantihero

Pantihero was a short-lived but gloriously filthy two-piece sludge outfit from New Zealand, made up of Eoin O’Rourke (bass, vocals) and Katie Chilton (drums). Formed in 2017, the band specialised in scungy, fuzzed-out metallic punk.

They made their debut in August 2017 at the aptly named “Rungus Face Melter,” a Razored Raw event featuring heavy-hitters like Rogernomix, Stress Ghetto, and out-of-towners Spiteful Urinator, Bridge Burner, and Turbulent Juice. A month later, they dropped their self-titled debut EP, five tracks of lo-fi sludge mayhem, released on local cassette label Razored Raw.

2018 saw Pantihero hitting the stage at events like Waitangi Waste Fest and Destroy Wellington, as well as heading out of town with Total Ruin and Piggery for a short, noisy tour. But by early 2019, the duo decided to call it quits, going out with one last skull crushing set at Valhalla for Waitangi Waste Fest on February 9th.

After Pantihero’s demise, Katie joined forces with Sarsha Leigh-Douglas and Bonnie Tonkins to form doom sludge trio DAHTM, continuing the tradition of heavy, slow, and unrepentantly grim music.
