Entrails were a metallic hardcore punk band from Wellington, New Zealand, formed in 2008. The original lineup featured John Dimery (vocals), William “Fuzz” Profitt (guitar), Fraser Matheson (guitar), Nellie Pearson (bass), and Nick Oakes (drums). Drawing inspiration from international acts such as Cursed, His Hero is Gone, Disfear, Integrity, and Converge, as well as local bands The Wrongmen and Strangers, Entrails kicked things off jamming at their homebase of Lorne Street in 2008 with a first show at Valve on September 12.
They soon hit the road with Auckland’s Smashin’ Off for shows across Wellington, Hamilton, and Auckland and played with local bands Neon Bastard, In Cahoots, and Cult of The Cobra throughout 2009 and performing at Punkfest in October. At the end of 2009 Nellie Pearson left and was replaced by Cameron Reid on bass.
In 2010, Entrails began work on their debut album, recorded at Lorne Street with Tim Shann as engineer. Released in June 2011 by Negative Collective, the album, Laid To Waste, was launched with a gig at San Fran Bath House alongside Rogernomix and Shock Futuro. Laid to Waste showcased 10 tracks of menacing hardcore/metal, praised for its tight instrumentation and emotive intensity. That same month, Entrails released a split 7” EP with US band Good Things via Germany’s Idoneum Bello and Hamilton’s United Blasphemy labels, featuring three tracks recorded in 2009 with Nellie on bass.
In 2011, Entrails supported a number of international acts including Cruel Hand and Doomriders, however their September 20 show with U.S band Ringworm marked the end for Entrails. The band’s members went on to form a number of other bands: Dimery and Oakes formed grindcore outfit Numbskull, Fuzz relocated to Melbourne to join crust hardcore band Removalist, and Cameron Reid moved to Hamilton, later playing with Phone Sex Robots from 2013 to 2016.
