Maced

Maced is a four-piece grindcore band from Te Whanganui-a-Tara/ Wellington. They play disgustingly distorted, ultra-fast grindcore, with a punk-rock leaning and some powerviolence and hardcore mixed in. Their songs deal with the social and political issues of modern life: dystopian technology, Palestine and the grim state of New Zealand politics.

The band formed in late 2024, after the end of the short-lived Nullpolitik. Matai (drums), Simon (vocals) and Lex (bass) were joined by Zoe on guitar, who also plays in screamo band Eurydice. Matai and Simon had previously played together in Datguy and Skitkrimes while both also moonlight as major record label executives for Razored Raw and Limbless Music, respectively.

Maced made their live debut on February 8, 2025 at Wastefest, Valhalla’s annual festival of rungusness, which also included No Sector, another punk band which Matai drums in. Their first release came in October 2025, a 13-track split cassette with Napier death-grind band Post-Natal Abortion. It was put out by Razored Raw and HBHC. Maced’s ten tracks include “Buy Sell Die”, “Dead Don’t Vote” and “Palestine”. In August 2026 they followed it with a second split, a 7″ with Auckland’s Fiscal Hole, and played release shows in Hamilton and Auckland.

Over the last two years Maced has supported a number of international acts, including King Parrot, Choof, Endless Swarm, Stagnance and Livid.
