Devoid was a three-piece industrial goth punk band from Wellington that formed in 1993. Composed of Stephen Chan on guitar/ vocals, Grayson Cooke on drums and Kev on bass/ vocals Devoid performed alongside local punk and metal acts like Schitzofrantics, SMUT, Loosehead, Septic Noise Grinder, Premature Autopsy and Fat Mannequin, as well as Palmerston North bands Lung and Froithead.
Known for their intense live shows, Devoid incorporated projections and angle-grinders to enhance their industrial sound and visual impact, notably during two performances at Bats Theatre in March 1994.
In 1993 they released a six-song EP, Kino Glaz, recorded at The Stomach in Palmerston North with engineer Dave White of Lung. Additionally, two tracks appeared on the Poison Profits compilation, a benefit tape/ gig for the New Zealand Anti-Vivisection Society, released on July 23, 1993. Devoid played their final show in mid-1994 at the original Bar Bodega on Willis Street.
