Krotchrot were a short-lived but intense three-piece punk band based in Wellington, New Zealand, operating out of the infamous “Pirate House” at 23 Daniell Street in Newtown. The lineup consisted of Tyron on guitar and vocals, Adam Cohn on bass, and Nik on drums. Adam brought prior experience from playing in If I Had A Gun and an early incarnation of the Carnys, while Tyron had previously drummed in the hardcore punk outfit Sparkle Motion from 2003 to 2005.
Formed in 2005, Krotchrot embodied the raw, chaotic energy of the mid-2000s Wellington DIY punk and crust scene. They played a string of venues including The Caledonian, Valve, and The Adelaide, alongside house parties around the city. The band shared stages with local rungus rabble like Smegmata, Drug Problem, Gobsmakt, and Antiquest, fitting right into the aggressive, no-frills punk underbelly.
In 2006, they self-released a “limited edition fuken rough as guts demo,” perfectly capturing their filthy, unpolished dumpster crust sound. That same year, the band ventured north for an appearance at Undergroundfest ’06 at the Kings Arms in Auckland, a rare out-of-town gig.
After roughly a year and half Krotchrot played their final show on October 19, 2006, at The Adelaide, a Thursday night “appetiser” event featuring bands that didn’t make the main Punkfest lineup that weekend.
