Gutrot was a short-lived but intense d-beat crust punk band from Wellington, New Zealand, formed in 2012 at the Lorne Street punk house in Te Aro, central Wellington.

The lineup featured Duncan Cowell on bass, Adam Cohn on guitar, Mucky on drums, and Joe on vocals. Adam Cohn brought prior experience from bands like Carnys (2000), If I Had A Gun (2002-2003), and Krotchrot (2005–2006), while Mucky had played in Cask Grinder and Drug Lord. The band self-described their sound as “manic depression trying to have fun,” capturing the raw, chaotic energy of d-beat and crust punk with its aggressive, fast-paced riffs and bleak yet energetic delivery.

Gutrot made their live debut in January 2013 at San Fran Bath House, sharing the bill with Numbskull, The Dilfs, and Johnny and The Felchers, all tied to the local Lorne Street HMPCO (Heavy Metal Punk Club Oi!) scene. They followed up with shows at Lorne Street in March and April. In June 2013, the band self-released their debut (and only) album, Rough As Guts, recorded at Scumbag College and issued on CD. The release was celebrated with a show at San Fran Bath House alongside Sabbatic Goat.

The band maintained a busy live schedule, frequently playing with Wellington compatriots Awkward Death. In August 2013, Gutrot and Awkward Death undertook a 6-date tour across New Zealand, culminating at the Onslaught festival in Dunedin. They continued gigging actively through the end of the year. Activity slowed in early 2014, and Gutrot played their final show in April 2014, effectively bringing the project to a close after roughly two years of high-energy output in Wellington’s underground punk scene.
