Derma was a short-lived band from Wellington active from late 2018 to early 2020. Formed by Kitt Verhoff (bass), Ollie Parsons (guitar), Selina (vocals), and Matt Gillies (drums), the band brought together members with diverse punk and metal backgrounds. At the time Kitt was also drumming in Ayn Randy, Ollie had recently played in The Dilfs, Selina was part of the black metal crust band Bowel Rupture, and Matt had previously played in Dunedin’s Feral Hunks, before relocating to Wellington.
Derma played a handful of gigs during their brief existence, including a February 2019 show at Newtown Community Centre to coincide with Hannah Salmon’s The Modern Alpha exhibition, and a fundraiser for refugee resettlement following the Christchurch mosque shootings in March 2019. They recorded and released a self-titled seven-track EP in August 2019.
With members juggling other musical projects, Derma’s momentum faded, and they played their final show at Waitangi Waste Fest in February 2020. Post-Derma, Kitt and Ollie joined Dan Fraser in the band Pop OD, while Kitt and Selina later reunited in the punk outfit Intoxo.
