Put up or shut up! This is Lower Fuckin’ Hutt!
Damaged was a hardcore band from Lower Hutt, Wellington, formed in 2005. The lineup featured Jason ‘The Face’ Gascoigne (drums), Rhydian Thomas (guitar), Fuzz (bass), and Wadzy (vocals), with members having previously played in Guest Stabs Host, The Deadline, Evil Priest and Sheriff Lobo. Damaged’s sound blended the raw speed of Negative Approach, the metallic edge of Ringworm, and the mid-paced groove of Madball with lyrics that tackled celebrity culture, mainstream apathy, hardcore clichés, and religious fundamentalism.
In 2005, Damaged performed alongside bands like Evil Priest, The Warpath, and Guest Stabs Host, and appeared at that year’s Punkfest. Their self-titled album was released in 2006 on Rhydian’s label Action Man Records. That year, they played with local and international acts, including Melbourne’s Schifosi, and performed at Hamtown Smakdown as well as opening for US bands The Bouncing Souls and Madball.
By late 2006 Rhydian and James had formed a post-hardcore band, Strangers, which Damaged played a couple of shows with before splitting up sometime after September 2007. Fuzz later went on to form metalcore band Entrails.
