Product was a short-lived post-hardcore/nu-metal band from New Zealand, with roots in Tauranga and Wellington. Active from 1999 to 2001, they blended aggressive post-hardcore energy with nu-metal elements, playing a raw, heavy sound typical of the late ’90s/early 2000s underground scene.
The band formed in 1999 with the lineup of Michael Taylor (vocals), Shannon Isiah (drums), Chris (guitar), Brent (guitar/ keyboard) and Crete (bass). They quickly became part of Wellington’s vibrant local scene, sharing stages with bands like Floorpie, Channel 13, Blake, and Police Lucifer (in which bassist Crete also played).
In October 2000, they released their debut full-length album, Someone Else’s Promise. The launch gig took place at The Valve in Wellington alongside Blake and 5th Floor. By this point, guitarist/ keyboardist Brent had already departed the band. One of their tracks, “A New World in Variation”, appeared on the Eruption compilation, which showcased New Zealand punk and metal acts of the era.
Product disbanded in 2001. Their final performance was at The Valve on April 20, 2001. Little documentation survives online about the band today beyond scattered mentions of their album and live footage from The Valve gigs.
