Channeling the “invisible hand” of free market economics, the Adam Smith Assassination emerged in Wellington in early 2008, resurrected from D.N.A preserved on the stained sheets of previous group Shit The Bed which featured Blair Jones (vocals), Ryan Fouhy (drums), and Cam Parker (bass). They were joined by the notorious Jesse Larsen (guitar and Billy Mavs) and brutal T.V. critic Ken Simpson, who was at a loose end while his other band, Dead Vicious, was on hiatus.

Vocalist Blair Jones brought the ruckus, having gained a reputation for jovial antagonism in previous bands: Deaf Terrorists, If I Had A Gun, and Padded Cell. Their music was raw and rebellious, featuring songs like “Spoilt Western Wankers,” “Capitalist Crisis,” and “White Boy”- the latter of which was re-recorded by Dead Vicious for their 2013 album Nightmare On Molesworth Street.

A.S.A made their debut at Happy on September 13, 2008. Just a month later, they took the stage at Punkfest 2008 for a Sunday afternoon set. In March 2009, they recorded four tracks at Turret House which was self-released as a demo CD. Venturing beyond Wellington in May of that year, when they traveled to Auckland for a gig at the Kings Arms alongside a lineup of local punk and metal acts – Tentacles of Destruction, Gawj, Ferndale Stranglers amongst them. However, their run was short-lived. In June 2009, Adam Smith Assassination played their final show, opening for UK punk legends The Varukers at Hole In The Wall, before being placed into liquidation.
