Check it out, it’s Captain’s Log, this totally righteous garage-punk duo from, like, Rotorua, New Zealand, or something. You got Brad Sandilands shredding guitar and yelling stuff, and Thomas McGrath banging drums and also yelling. They moved to Wellington in 2006, ‘cause that’s where the cool parties are, heh heh. Their music? It’s, like, this gnarly mix of punk rock, super-fast rock, and, uh, just rock, dude. It’s so loud it makes your face hurt, in a good way.
Their first album, Let’s Go Crazy was totally nuts, fast and crazy with lyrics that are all, “Haha, we don’t care!” It’s like if you drank ten energy drinks and started a band. They kept cranking out tunes, dropping Unleashed ‘N’ Wastified! in 2007 – huh huh, “wastified,” that’s awesome – and then Thrashin’ and Thrillin’ Like It Is 2099 in 2011. Plus, like, three EPs, ‘cause these dudes were writing songs faster than you can smash a box of nangs.
They played at these sweet spots like The Adelaide, Happy, and Mighty Mighty, and totally tore up house parties, dude. They were at Sharkfest 2008 and Punkfest 2009, just, like, making everybody go “Whoa!” with their weird, loud punk stuff. It’s like, lo-fi, but it rules. Then, in 2012, they got all split up between Wellington and Christchurch – lame – and decided to quit. Their last show was at Medusa Bar, November 2, 2012, with some band called Holy Anus. Huh huh, “anus.” That’s cool.
Anyway, Captain’s Log was, like, the coolest, man. They didn’t care, just played loud and made everybody laugh and mosh. Total legends, heh heh.
