Formed in early 2012 The Dilfs were a high-energy punk band from Wellington that brought maximum pumpage to the local scene. The quartet consisted of Jerry (vocals), Ben (bass), Lucie (guitar), and Ollie (drums). Ben and Lucie had previously played together in the short-lived punk outfit In Cahoots (2008–2009), while Ben also performed with Phone Sex Robots and Lucie played bass in the garage surf rock band Tigers Of The Sea. Ollie had drummed in Bonus Donor (2002–2003). Drawing inspiration from punk pioneers like Redd Kross, Circle Jerks, and early Black Flag, The Dilfs crafted a sound that was fast, short, abrasive, and occasionally poppy.

The Dilfs played their debut gig in mid-2012 at Cuba Mall venue Mighty Mighty, sharing the stage with Numbskull, Influence, and Auckland’s Sex Pest. In November, they performed at the Up The Punks fundraiser show “Gettin’ Worse: Punx Still Angry”. It wasn’t until May 2014 that they released their self-titled EP through local label Zero Style, an 11-track tape of “party punk pumpage”, recorded at Scumbag College, that featured a Red Kross cover for good measure.

The band’s momentum continued in 2014 with the South Island Invasion tour, a rungus road trip alongside acts like Johnny and The Felchers, Phone Sex Robots, Over-Population, and The Methadonnas, culminating at Christchurch Punkfest. That year, they also opened for Portland’s The Estranged, played a unique Take Shelter bunker show in the Brooklyn’s hills, and joined the inaugural Neil Roberts Day fest in Whanganui.

The Dilfs played their final shows at Auckland’s Norty or Nice Xmas party in late 2015.
