Knife Fight was a raw garage rock band from Wellington, New Zealand, formed around 2006. The three-piece lineup featured Menno Huibers on guitar and vocals, John Douglas on bass, and Brendan Moran on drums.

Drawing heavy inspiration from the late ’90s revival of stripped-back, high-energy garage rock, the band aligned closely with the local scene centered around Kato Records. This label showcased similar acts like The Hasselhoff Experiment, The Mysterious Tapeman, and The Flamin’ Werepigs, emphasizing back-to-basics lo-fi rock ‘n’ roll with surf-punk attitude.

Knife Fight quickly became fixtures in Wellington’s vibrant punk and hardcore community. They played the afternoon slot at Punkfest 2006 alongside various hardcore and punk bands. Over the years, they continued gigging extensively, playing shows with punk and hardcore acts, appearing at festivals like Sharkfest and Here’s To Future Days, and performing at house parties and DIY venues.

In 2009, the band released their first record: the four-track 7″ EP Hobbies, issued on the Australian label Aarght! Records. This was followed in 2010 by the God Damn 7″ single on Kato Records. That same year, they contributed a track to the Stink Magnetic compilation Wolf Party, a release that highlighted the breadth of New Zealand’s lo-fi garage rock underground. Additional Knife Fight tracks appeared on various other compilations during their active period.
