Fatal Error

Fatal Error

In crust we trust! Wellington band Fatal Error brought “One More For The Dark Laaaaaaawn!”

Fatal Error was a four-piece crust-punk band from Wellington, formed in 1997. The original lineup featured Dan Hill on vocals, Mike Bastard on guitar, Tony on drums, and Greg on bass. Tony and Greg also played in the band Malakrinate, with whom Fatal Error shared several shows. Both Dan and Mike were involved with Screaming Asylum Productions, which organized shows in Wellington from 1996 to 1998.

Influenced by crust and punk bands like Destroy, Extreme Noise Terror, Disrupt, Chaos UK, and Doom, Fatal Error debuted at Thistle Hall on June 20, 1997, alongside Diecast and Malakrinate. They played regularly throughout 1997 with local acts like Loosehead and Walking Groin Infection, as well as out-of-town bands such as Sid Vishnu and Sommerset and made it to Masterton twice playing the Masonic Hall with local band Koveshe. In October, Fatal Error were included on the lineup for Punkfest, at the time a Screaming Asylum Production and a highlight of the Wellington punk scene.

In 1998, Fatal Error opened for Californian band Your Mother and UK punk legends The Varukers. By mid-2000, the lineup changed with Tim from Deaf Terrorists taking over on bass and Jason on drums. That November they recorded demos at Erskine College with Nathan Judge (Killtrain, School of Meat) working the knobs, however the recordings never had a formal release. The band went into hiatus later that year when Dan moved to Australia, reforming in October 2002 for a couple of shows before disbanding for good.
