Anyone wondering about how to open an album would do well to listen to Wellington band Black Lick‘s eponymous debut. First track “Parasitic World” fair hurtles out of the speakers like a runaway train, a pitch-perfect blend of energy, ferocity and infectious melody. If the song has a flaw, it is only that it sets the bar so high the rest of the release has little chance of matching it – at least until the equally brilliant closer “Murder Suicide” bookends proceedings perfectly.
