Hulagu is the first album by Wellington outsider-punk group mr sterile Assembly featuring the band at it’s largest size with five members accompanying the core duo of Chrissie and Kieran.
Hulagu Khan was the grandson of the Mongol ruler Ghengis Khan. Hulagu invaded Baghdad in the 13th century, destroying historical treasures and irrigation systems, creating calamity for the following 100 years. In 2003 Baghdad was again illegally invaded, essential services destroyed and the important Baghdad museum plundered. Artifacts and ancient documents that survived the first act of terror were tragically lost in the US led invasion.
