From beneath the shadows, out of the graveyards and burnt out buildings they emerge, gathering in numbers, drawn to that sound I like insects to lights. “Desolation dogs, surviving on the I noise,” sings Gerald Dwyer over a moody menacing sound twitching with nervous energy it’d make for a brilliant video. So what is it I’m getting so excited about? Simply an excellent song off this debut EP from Wellington’s Flesh<\/strong> D-Vice.<\/strong> It features seven songs, ranging from the throat grabbing approach – of ‘Kill That Girl’ to more straight forward rockers like ‘Baby Of My Mind’, ‘Friday Nights’ and ‘War Boots’. Here lies one of my reservations, ‘War Boots’ is dumb and as one member of this band has been the victim of mindless violence they should know better. The other complaint is that it’s just too basic, the band are underplaying themselves, only really showcasing their abilities on the brilliant ‘Desolation Dogs’. Flesh<\/strong> D-Vice<\/strong> are easily better than many of their better-known<\/p>\nRip It Up, Issue 78, 1 January 1984, Page 22<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
