Are we in the clouds now? FOG!

Fog are an anarcho post-punk band from Aotearoa New Zealand, formed in 2022 by John Dimery (vocals), Liz Gibson (guitar), Ben Knight (drums) and Jessy McNamara (bass). The band is spread across Wellington, Te Horo and Dunedin. They take their name from a line in Vincent Ward’s 1984 film Vigil, a grim but beautiful depiction of ‘Aotearoa gothic’ that sets the tone for Fog’s edgy take on punk.

Fog played their first gig at Nevermind the Punkfest in Newtown on Labour Weekend 2022. With members spread around the country, live appearances were rare. Despite this they recorded at the Te Horo ranch with Vanya Vitali in 2023 releasing their debut EP, A Black Cloud That Swallowed The Dove at Neil Roberts Day on 18 November 2023 as an 8 song tape/ download release. At the end of 2024, R.I.P Peace (Australia) and Wellington’s Always Never Fun Records pressed four of the tracks as the 7″ Absurdist Peace EP.

The same labels released the four-track 7″ Spring on 23 August 2025, again recorded, mixed and mastered by Vanya Vitali at Te Horo. In September 2025 Fog toured Japan with fellow Wellingtonians Displeasure.
