Ditzy Squall

Ditzy Squall

Ditzy Squall was an angular, experimental post-punk trio from Wellington, New Zealand, formed in 2003. The band featured Chrissie Butler on bass and vocals, Aaron Lloydd on bass, and Kieran Monaghan on drums. Aaron and Kieran had previously played together in the Wellington punk outfit Loosehead, and were joined by Chrissie to form the outsider punk band mr sterile Assembly.

Known for their math rock-infused, free-form sound, Ditzy Squall made waves in the local Aotearoa New Zealand scene and beyond, performing at anarchist venues like Liberte in the Czech Republic and touring in Japan alongside bands such as Ni Hao and Limited Express (has gone?). In 2005, they released their debut album “Skirt” and toured New Zealand’s North Island with Czech band Sabot, also playing at Punkfest that year. The band disbanded after their final gig in 2006, with Chrissie and Kieran focusing on mr sterile Assembly. Chrissie later transformed Ditzy Squall into a solo project, DSLB (Ditzy Squall’s Lunch Box), releasing her debut solo album “Blokebird” in 2013.
